BIOGRAPHY

Born in London (2000) and brought up in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, Andrew began his musical journey at the age of 8 studying traditional Scottish Fiddle. He first picked up a pair of drumsticks at the age of 11 and has not looked back since then, studying drumkit and marching snare drum under the tutelage of Richard Champion. In 2018, he began his studies on the BMus Jazz course at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire where he studied with Clark Tracey, Andrew Bain and Mark Sanders. He graduated in July 2022 with a First Class Honours degree and was awarded the Jazz Prize for consistent achievement and commitment.

Andrew has performed alongside artists such as Yazz Ahmed, Soweto Kinch, John O'Gallagher, Jean Toussaint, Nigel Price, Percy Pursglove, Paul Booth, Neil Yates and Arnie Somogyi. He has received coaching and attended masterclasses led by well-known artists across all mediums of jazz music including Jeff Ballard, Mark Guiliana, Jeff Tain Watts, Ari Hoenig, Maria Schneider, Jerry Bergonzi, Yazz Ahmed, Soweto Kinch, Jeff Williams, Michael Janisch, Iain Ballamy, Jean Toussaint, Pablo Held, John O’Gallagher, Percy Pursglove, Mark Hodgson, Arnie Somogyi, Mike Williams and Ed Puddick.

Andrew held the drum chair with the National Youth Orchestra of Scotland Jazz Orchestra for their 40th Anniversary Tour of Scotland, Northern Ireland and Eire in Summer 2019, as well as the following Summer course of 2020. He was also a member of the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire Jazz Orchestra and the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire Afro-Cuban Jazz Orchestra.

Andrew released his debut album Islands in May 2022. The album comprises of 7 tracks about 7 different locations on 7 West Coast Scottish Islands Andrew visited during his childhood. The album takes inspiration from a multitude of music from Jazz to Classical to Folk.
