ANDREW DUNCAN
Drummer / Composer /
Arranger / Band Leader

BIO
BBC Young Jazz Musician of the Year 2022 semi-finalist Andrew Duncan is a Birmingham-based drummer and composer who's playing has quickly earned a reputation for versatility, drive, and imaginative flair. Moving fluidly between jazz, groove-driven music and New Orleans–inspired brass band traditions, Andrew brings the same intensity, clarity, and spirit of invention to every setting he enters.
Equally compelling as a bandleader or sideman, he fronts his own ensemble featuring leading voices from the Birmingham and London jazz scenes. In 2022, Andrew released his debut album Islands with the sextet, marking a significant development as a composer and bandleader. Alongside his own projects, he remains a first-call collaborator across a wide range of work. A member of Head Rush Brass Band and the ever in-demand luxury wedding and party band Mirror, Andrew has also performed alongside artists including Yazz Ahmed, Soweto Kinch, John O’Gallagher, Jean Toussaint, Rachael Cohen, Nigel Price and Arnie Somogyi, establishing himself as one of the most exciting and adaptable drummers of his generation on the UK scene.

Andrew also supported American drummer Ari Hoenig and saxophonist Jerry Bergonzi on their respective UK tours in 2021 and 2022.

Andrew's sextet's debut album Islands is out now on all streaming platforms.
